Face

Face is a unique part of human body-it is an entryway to the Self. Faces are distinctive and give us our identity. It is the first thing another person sees and very often it forms their first impression about you. Unfortunately, we are not always blissfully satisfied with our reflection in the mirror.

Reasons may be due to particular genetic predisposition, a natural skin aging or external environmental effects – factors we cannot influence, but aesthetic medicine definitely can. We will together try to understand the complex causality of the problem and find appropriate techniques to reach the desired outcome. As an experienced plastic surgeon, I will provide you with all of the details and necessary information as required.

Skin tumors

Recreational sunbathing and artificial tanning have increased the risk for skin diseases. Always wear sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) to protect your skin and prevent skin cancer and sunburn, no matter your skin color or tone. Not following this rule can lead to not only visible unattractive skin changes like age spots, but also to cause skin tumors, both benign and malignant.

UV-A radiation commonly causes damage to our skin, harms our genome and can cause mutations. Another major risk factor is associated with genetic predisposition. People with a lot of moles on their body are thought to be at greater risk for melanoma skin cancer than people with fewer moles or none at all. Moreover, skin cancer affects people of all skin tones, including those with darker complexions. There are various types of skin cancer ranging from malignant melanoma to basal cell carcinoma (white skin cancer).

Malignant melanoma

Malignant melanoma, often called “black skin cancer” usually appears in a form of an asymmetrical brown-black patch on the body. This type is more dangerous because it’s a malignant tumor and it’s much more likely to spread to other parts of the body if not caught and treated early. An increased risk of melanoma is frequently associated with increasing number of unprotected sunburns.

Therefore, in contrast to “white skin cancer” (defined below), this disease is considered more aggressive and is able to migrate through small lymph or blood vessels walls in the body, promoting the formation of metastasis elsewhere. The solution is the surgical removal.

Basal cell carcinoma

Basalioma, commonly defined as “white skin cancer”, usually appears as a skin-colored or a reddish-brown patch, often mistakenly referred to non-healing wounds. This is the most common type of cancer. Unlike black skin cancer, this type of tumor grows relatively slowly, usually doesn’t cause pain and mainly occurs on the scalp and neck. On average, most BCCs appear in people, both men and women, over the age 50. However, a recent study has showed that it might be diagnosed at younger ages as well. Untreated BCCs can become locally invasive, grow wide and deep into the skin and destroy skin, tissue and bone. The longer you wait to have a BCC treated, the more likely it is to recur, sometimes repeatedly. Basalioma does not cause metastases, but it must be removed.

Sun protection is the best solution, but it does not completely exclude the possibility of skin tumors, which may be genetically determined. It is very important to diagnose the tumor at an early stage to prevent its further development and spread. If it is not visible to the naked eye, I will examine the affected area in reflected light microscope to confirm whether the cells are malignant or benign, including benign moles as well.

Eyelid lift

Human eyes are considered as the most important facial feature. As people age, some of the earliest changes are in the eyelids. The skin of the upper and lower eyelids stretches out, loses its elasticity. Fatty tissue that surrounds and supports the eye also may begin to bulge, creating a tired or puffy look. At a more dramatic stage heavy eyelids can affect your visual field in a bad way. Depending on the desired outcome, I will develop the optimal surgical solution for you.

Surgical eyelid reconstruction, also known as blepharoplasty, can make a person look rested and rejuvenated. This cosmetic surgery removes excess skin or excess fat in the upper and/or lower eyelids. Weakened muscle fibers get stretched and fixed.

For upper eyelid surgery, incisions are usually made in the eyelid crease, so when it heals it is not noticeable. For lower eyelids, incisions are made on the inside of the eyelid (for fat removal or repositioning) or just below the eyelash line to conceal it. Closure can also make a difference.

Blepharoplasty is performed with local anesthesia and sedation. Following eyelid surgery, recovery is usually quick, sutures should be removed in post-operative 5-7 days. Discomfort is mild. However, please keep in mind that you will be recommended to take one week off during the first post-operative week because the eyelids will get particularly sensitive and a certain degree of swelling and bruising is to be expected.

Botox for Migraine Treatment

Botox is a natural substance that in small doses is used to actively reduce skin wrinkles and help treat some muscle conditions. What many people suffering from migraine headaches don’t know is how well Botox treatment works against this chronic pain when regular migraine medication is non-effective. Tension headaches (migraines) occur when neck and scalp muscles become tense or contract. The areas of muscles injected with Botox will reduce anxiety and release tension. Thanks to this treatment you will feel more relaxed and look instantly younger. The results from Botox last up to a year.

Botox for Hyperhidrosis (Sweating)

Hyperhidrosis or enhanced sweating can be diffuse or focal and has multiple causes when sweat is distributed across nearly the entire body surface area. Botox as a natural substance is produced by a certain strain of bacteria. It is well known not only for wrinkle treatment but also for a hyperhidrosis therapy. The substance inhibits sweat secretion of sweat glands, so the Botox injections stop the sweat glands from producing too much sweat in the specific area: armpits, palms and feet. The results from Botox last up to a year.

Otoplasty or cosmetic ear surgery

Ear plastic surgery, known as otoplasty, can improve the shape, position and proportion of the ear. This procedure can help to remove this birth defect or correct one that becomes visible with development. Otoplasty can significantly boost a self-esteem and improve self-image. Today, many people are suffering from protruding ears (occurring on one or both sides in varying degrees), overly large ears (birth defect) or visible asymmetry and disbalance of ears. The formation of auricle usually occurs in children at 7-8 years of age. Therefore, otoplasty is recommended to be carried out only after the child’s ears are fully grown, which is usually around the age of 7.

In newborns up to 6 weeks the ears could be reshaped without surgery, but after this it is only possible with surgical intervention as the baby ear cartilage that appears to harden. During the surgery ear cartilage is being dissected by making small incisions on the posterior surface of the auricle and is fixed in a desired position, making a surgical scar completely invisible. The surgery is carried out in a short amount of time under a local anesthesia and can be well tolerated by the patient with a minimal discomfort. In 10 days, a headband can be removed, however it is strongly recommended to wear it at night only to prevent ears from getting swollen while you are sleeping. In addition, a surgery can repair earlobes torn by earrings or stretched by body piercing.

Facial fillers (hyaluronic acid)

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) occurs naturally throughout the human body. The studies show that as we get older, HA’s reserves are decreasing which in turn leads to loss of elasticity and hydration. HA is well known for having the diaper effect, it is used not only for a volumetric face correction but also for a correction the shape and asymmetry of lips and nose.

Lip correction with hyaluronic fillers

This natural and endogenous substance, referred to as a lip filler, is often used for a lip contouring, its lipstick lines and removing fine wrinkles around the mouth (perioral folds). In aesthetic surgery, there are different types of hyaluronic acid for various areas of our face. During your initial visit, I will examine your skin first, answer questions regarding financing, results and recovery by taking into account all your wishes and expectations. The hyaluronic acid is injected into desired areas with a fine needle and the results are immediately visible with its longevity between 6-12 months. Your body break down the HA at different rates.
Another alternative method for lip reshaping is autologous fat grafting by using own body fat to fill another area of the body and modeling shape and contours of the lips.

Nasal reshaping with hyaluronic acid

Liquid rhinoplasty appears to be the most common facial plastic reconstructive surgery procedure and a quick correction of nasal defects. Most people are scared to undergo elective cosmetic surgery, but even without surgery, minimal injection techniques will help to make your nose narrower, remove the hump and asymmetry or lift the tip of your nose. Owing to its viscosity, HA has the ability to smooth out the irregularities. Results are immediately visible and there is no restrictions in your social life.

Face contouring with hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid fillers are becoming increasingly popular amongst patient who seek facial enhancement. HA works in specific ways to volumize and give structure to the face, improve facial contour, reshape the jawline, remove facial asymmetry and irregularities and create a more youthful and balanced appearance. During your initial consultation I will provide you with all necessary information to achieve natural and harmonious results that complement your look and confidence.
